WHAT ARE SEARCH ENGINES AND WHAT MAKES THEM SO IMPORTANT?

Search engines are really nothing more than electronic internet services that allow their users to search the world wide web or other database for information links to web sites. Although there are many, the most powerful(called the Big Three) are Google(www,Google.com),Yahoo!(www.Yahoo.com),MSN(www.MSN.com). Their two main objectives are to earn profitable revenues by selling internet advertising space to businesses around the world,and to maintain and grow their user base by providing visitors with most relevant and highest-quality links and resource results. It's important to note that the second goal supports the first. That is,the search engines don't make money unless they attract advertisers. And they can't attract advertisers without an audience. Therefore, the more people like a given search engine, the more likely they are to visit it,over and over again.
